The mother duck and five ducklings who had been nesting in the C Building courtyard have flown the coop and are on the hunt for a new home.
Horticulturalist Beverley Haselgrave says the mother lead her ducklings through several buildings before leading them out into the world. “She took a rather long route from the Courtyard exit at C100, up to Four Corners, over the ramp to D building, through the cafeteria and outside through the J building south entrance. After escorting her across College Avenue she ventured off to the south, most likely to meet up with her mate.”
The ducklings weren’t injured during the trip; a remarkable feat considering the number of doors and buildings they had to go through to get out! But Haselgrave says the mother seemed to have their route mapped out. “Once inside it was amazing how quickly she brought the ducklings through the buildings – you’d think she already knew her way around!”
Now that the ducks have left, the temporary fence and pond are being removed which means the weekly Students’ Association volleyball games should be able to resume soon.
You can see photos of their journey here.

I wonder if these ducks would mind helping with campus tours and information booths during the start of term?
