Volunteer Brandon helps students find their way to Orientation.

Welcome to all the new School of Business students on campus for Orientation! Today, we would like to take a moment to stop and thank the 50 Orientation volunteers for all their hard work!

“The Student Leaders are outdoor and indoor way-finders,” says Sophia Bouris, Student Affairs and Orientation Officer. They greet the students in the parking lots and guide them to Orientation. This gives new students a great first impression with the College. The peer to peer interaction makes orientation appealing  to new students.

“Student leaders also give service tours to the new students, present about their experience at the college and handle some of the logistics for the day including set up and tear down. Orientation could not be run properly without them!”

For the volunteers, being a part of Orientation is a fun and rewarding experience even if it is hard work. “They are role models and mentors to new students, and they develop their own friendships with other Orientation leaders,” adds Sophia. “Many of them volunteer because they want to get involved within their campus and want to welcome new students. They also get hands-on experience with coordinating a large scale event. Each day they have to trouble shoot, think on their feet, and be professional. All of these qualities prepare them for their academics  and life after Algonquin.”
