Hot off a Capital Critics Circle nomination for Best Community Production (Actor’s Nightmare by Christopher Durang – Directed by Mary Ellis), the Algonquin College Theatre Arts Program is proud to present another season of fantastic theatre. Please note all shows start at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.
First up: directed by the exciting Catriona Leger is Carlo Goldoni’s A Servant of Two Masters, an evening of hilarious Commedia Dell’Arte. Mistaken identity, cross dressing and masked buffoonery make this one en evening of colourful fun you won’t want to miss! February 13th to 17th.
Next up: award-winning director Mary Ellis and the students in 3 Chekhov Shorts. Billed as 33 Swoons because – you guessed it – in these comedies someone passes out, faints or falls over in shock at least 33 times! Beautiful costumes and set designed by Judith De Boer will make this one a delight for the senses. March 20th to 24th.
Third show: the final full-length show in the season is the touching and difficult play The Laramie Project by Tectonic Theatre Project. This is a documentary play based on the tragic events surrounding the beating death of a young gay man in Laramie, Wyoming. What makes this play so special is that the words these young actors will be speaking are directly those of the people of the town. April 17th to 21st.
The College has added Sunday matinees this year, giving you more opportunities to catch this wonderful season. This program is rapidly gaining a reputation for quality theatrical entertainment at excellent prices. Join us this year and see why!
As a bonus, our annual showcase evening of monologues will be presented on Monday, April 22nd at The Gladstone Theatre in the heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy. This year’s selection is 100% Canadian. Come and see the entire graduating class in Flying Solo, EH?!
