Below is an update from Professor Dana Tapak and her Interior Design students, who are in Honduras working with Habitat for Humanity and Advanced Business Interiors.
We have wrapped up day four and the team is still going strong!
Our tasks on the build site are varied; carrying concrete blocks and adobe bricks, cutting bricks, moving mounds of dirt to level the earth for proper run off and assisting the masons by mixing cement (one wheelbarrow of brown sand, three wheelbarrows of gravel with two bags of cement and five pails of water). Mix. Repeat.
We are working on phase three of this Habitat project which consists of 10 houses and a playground that they want to complete by December 3, 2013. The team has been working to help finish four houses and the playground.
The children in the village greet our bus each morning and can’t wait for the colouring books, soccer ball and piggy back rides.
The students are have grown quite attached to the culture, children and families of the village and say the last two days will go by too quickly!
