Students on Algonquin College’s three campuses now have the opportunity to cash-in on a new bursary opportunity thanks to the establishment of the $200,000 Scotiabank Bursary.
“At Scotiabank, we strongly believe in equipping students with the tools, skills and experiences to realize their full potential,” says Peggy Williams, Scotiabank Community Banking Manager for Ottawa Valley. “Pursuing post-secondary education is an investment in the future, but this investment can also present financial challenges. Through Scotiabank Bright Future, our global philanthropic program, we are pleased to help more students attain access to education.”
This new bursary will support students who are facing financial challenges. Students enrolled in Algonquin College’s Business Administration program (Financial Services) on the Woodroffe Campus; the Office Administration Executive program on the Pembroke Campus; and Office Administration Executive program on the Perth Campus may benefit from the bursary.
“On behalf of the students in our Business programs on all three campuses, I would like to thank Scotiabank for establishing this very generous bursary,” explains Dave Donaldson, Dean, School of Business, Algonquin College. “Students face significant financial challenges as they make their way through their post-secondary education and this new bursary will ease some of that strain and help our students be successful in their college and career goals.”
The $200,000 bursary announcement was made during a cheque presentation on Algonquin College’s Woodroffe Campus with the help of Joy McKinnon, Vice President, Business Development, Algonquin College; Brenda Rothwell, Executive Director, Algonquin College Foundation; Emily Farrell, District Vice President Ottawa River, Scotiabank; Luigi Bastianelli, Director, Commercial Banking, Scotiabank; Dave Donaldson, Dean, School of Business, Algonquin College; and Lisa Taylor, Chair, School of Business, Algonquin College.
The Algonquin College Foundation was established in 2003 to raise funds for student bursaries, awards, scholarships, program equipment, and facility enhancements. Since 2003 the Foundation, through the generosity of its donors, has created 180 endowed bursaries to support students facing financial challenges attending all three campuses of Algonquin College.
